JCUA Partners with Community Organization in Englewood to Empower Youth

JCUA Works in Collaboration with Imagine Englewood If

JCUA has been partners with Imagine Englewood If for the last ten or so years, and we are very excited to inform you about our latest collaboration. For the past few months, JCUA has been working in collaboration with Imagine Englewood If in developing an after-school and weekend program for Englewood-area teens. The program, Growing Citizen Leaders (GCL), hopes to teach teens about community organizing. The curriculum includes:

  • Learning about social justice;
  • Political education;
  • How to assess and map community need;
  • How to develop action plans;
  • How to promote interest in community issues;
  • And event planning and recruiting.

The program will also include an impressive lineup of speakers and field trips, and even a few community celebrations. At the end of the program, the culminating event will be a large youth rally in late August which the teens will be responsible for coordinating and holding. Imagine Englewood If has been working hard to build this program and has already recruited a program full of amazing young adults, a lineup of speakers and field trips, and quite an impressive schedule. JCUA has been helping to help develop the curriculum as far as offering assistance with materials, workshops, and new ideas. Furthermore, it is our plan to create an opportunity for Or Tzedek teens this summer to learn alongside GCL teens, build new friendships, and come together as Chicago teens in advocating for justice in our city.

We have a long-lasting and enriching friendship and partnership with Imagine Englewood If, and we are so excited to be a part of this amazing new program!
